Leak Detection with a Thermal Camera: What we need to know

In this article we will explain what a thermal camera is, what are the benefits of thermal photography, and how does it actually work? all the answers.

What are Thermal Imagers /Thermal Cameras?

A Thermal Camera is a special device for detecting leaks in concealed pipes that are inside the wall or under the tiles. The camera is able to detect the temperature differences in the wall and using a thermographic image it will detect where the leak is from. Technological advancement has not missed the world of plumbing and various innovations are upgrading the capabilities of plumbers to locate and solve problems. One of the rising stars is the thermal camera that allows plumbers to detect leaks efficiently, without the need to break walls and lift bumps.

What are the benefits of thermal imaging?

In the past before the use of a thermal camera, professionals had to understand in difficult ways like breaking walls where the source of the leak was. Today thermal imaging allows them to accurately identify the source of the leak and perform spot correction

    How is the test performed?

The thermal image works by using infrared rays that are sensitive to heat, and thus can detect temperature differences in a particular area.During the test the professional will scan the area in question with the camera. For example, if you have reported signs of dampness or mold on the wall, the professional will scan that wall and see if there is a hidden leak. The camera actually displays colors in shades of power and red, and what’s in between. The red color symbolizes the hot water piping while the blue color symbolizes the cold water piping. A report will then be received and we will know if there is a leak and where

When should you use a thermal camera?

A thermal camera is a measuring instrument and The most common use of the thermal camera is in order to detect leaks whose origin is unclear, such as moisture in an inner wall. The camera can give an accurate location of the damaged pipe and save the need to break walls and floors.
