    HAZE Meters

    A Haze Meter (Turbidity Meter) is an instrument used to measure haze and transmittance in transparent and semi-transparent materials such as plastics, films, and glass.
    The haze meter evaluates how much light is scattered through a material, providing a critical index of clarity for quality control in various industries, including packaging, automotive, and consumer electronics.
    These instruments can comply with international standards such as ASTM and ISO, and often feature digital displays, data storage, and support for multiple light sources for comprehensive analysis — as seen in models from VTSYIQI and Elastocon AB.

    Main Features and Functions

    • Haze Measurement: Determines the percentage of light scattered by the material, indicating its clarity or diffusion level.

    • Transmittance Measurement: Measures the amount of light passing through the sample and expresses it as a percentage.

    • Material Applications: Suitable for a wide range of materials, including plastic sheets, films, glass, LCD and touch screens, and other transparent or semi-transparent materials.

    • Standard Compliance: Designed to meet international standards such as ASTM D1003/D1044 and ISO 13468/14782.

    • Light Sources (Illuminants): Typically equipped with multiple light sources (e.g., CIE-A, CIE-C, CIE-D65) for varied testing conditions.

    • No Warm-Up Time: Many models use LED light sources and require no warm-up time, improving efficiency.

    • Data Management: Includes data storage and transfer capabilities (e.g., via USB) for further analysis and quality control reporting.

    How It Works

    1. Light Source: A light source illuminates the sample.

    2. Light Scattering: Part of the light is scattered by the material.

    3. Detection: A detector measures both the total transmitted light and the scattered light.

    4. Calculation: The haze value is calculated as the ratio between the scattered light and the total transmitted light.
