    What is Jar Test

    A jar test is a laboratory procedure that simulates the coagulation and flocculation processes in water treatment plants. The purpose of the jar test is to determine the optimal type and dosage of coagulants and flocculants needed to effectively remove suspended particles and impurities from water. Here’s how a typical jar test is performed:


    Preparation: Several jars or beakers are filled with equal volumes of the water sample to be treated.

    Addition of Chemicals: Different amounts of coagulant chemicals are added to each jar.

    Mixing: The jars are placed on a flocculator, and the samples are rapidly mixed for a short period (coagulation phase) followed by a slower mixing period (flocculation phase).
